DOHA: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) and Seashore Group, one of the largest multi-disciplined business enterprises in the country, yesterday signed a one-season agreement.

The signing ceremony was attended by Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, President of QBF, and Saqr Saeed Al Mohannadi, Vice Chairman, Seashore Group, at Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) building.

“This agreement is for one season. It will end when the basketball season ends in Qatar,” Sheikh Saoud said.

“We are thrilled to be in a partnership with Seashore Group,” Sheikh Saoud added.

“Seashore Group is backing sports in a big way,” the QBF president said.

Last month, Seashore Group also signed a one-year agreement with the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee (QWSC).

Al Mohannadi said: “We believe the two parties can join hands in promoting basketball in the country. Seashore Group is actively pursuing to back sports events in the country.”

The Seashore Group VC added: “We have sponsored car rallies and volleyball and it is an honour to be associated with QBF. This is the first time we are joining hands with the basketball federation.”

Sheikh Saoud said the two parties would also join hands in promoting a green initiative to keep the environment clean in the country.

He said QOC is lending its ‘wholehearted support into recycling issues’.

“QOC is actively pursuing matters relating to recycling at various levels,” Sheikh Saoud said.

“There will be more partners for QBF in months to come,” Sheikh Saoud said when asked about future sponsorships.

“We are looking at three or four groups that could be part of our plans to promote basketball.

“You will come to know about them when we finalise such deals,” he added.

Seashore Group now comprises 12 divisions that are operated by highly qualified managers, technical professionals, skilled technicians and tradesmen, and supported by a wide range of plants, machinery, equipment and vehicles, well-equipped factories, workshops and laboratory and fully-equipped camp facilities for its staff and workers.

The basketball season in Qatar begins in October and ends in April every year.  THE PENINSULA
