Students learning the basics of anesthesia and pain relievers used in experiments on laboratory rodents.
Doha: The Laboratory Animals Research Center (LARC) at Qatar University (QU) organized a training programme for undergraduate science and medical students on ‘Anesthesia and Analgesia in Laboratory Rodents- Module I: Basic Module.’ The programme took place at the center’s headquarters in QU’s Research Complex building.
Participating students learned the basics of anesthesia and pain relievers used in experiments on laboratory rodents.
The training included two parts, a theoretical portion and hands-on training, which included basic instructions for anesthesia, common methods of anesthetizing rodents, how to use the rodent anesthetic device, injection methods, observation of rodents during anesthesia operations, recovery, and post-anesthesia recovery phase.
This training was an opportunity for QU students from the Health cluster, Biology, and Chemistry departments to gain knowledge about the basics of anesthetics and analgesics for laboratory rodents, in addition to highlighting the correct choice of anesthetic and animal care during and after surgical procedures.
