Doha: Thousands of football fans from across the globe are enjoying festivities organised at the Corniche Activation – which is part of the Cultural & Entertainment Experience Programme organised by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The 6km promenade stretches from the Sheraton Hotel to the Museum of Islamic Art and includes a vast range of entertainment options, food and beverage kiosks and roving performances, such as musicians, dancers and various visual artists.

The SC’s Stakeholder Relations Director, Khaled Al Suwaidi, said there was something for everyone to enjoy. “The Corniche Activation is our biggest fan zone project, with a capacity to host 120,000 fans. It contains a variety of festivities, coffee stations, food carts and family-friendly areas. There is something for everyone.”

He added: “We have worked closely with local cultural stakeholders and community groups to organise many of the activities, which celebrate the best of the host country, while highlighting our cultural diversity – which during the World Cup will make everyone feel that Qatar is their home away from home.”

Previously, the Cultural & Entertainment Experience Programme delivered cultural activations during FIFA Club World Cup, FIFA Arab Cup, Emir Cup and other past football tournaments.

Following the huge success of the programme, it launched the Cultural Activation FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 project to add to the extraordinary fan experience that visitors can indulge in during their stay in the country. With 600+ acts delivering more than 6,100 performances at 200 activation spots – with each aiming to create a memorable experience for World Cup fans.

The programme will deliver activations at all tournament stadiums last mile areas, Al Messila Bus Mall, fan accommodations, and will contribute to other sites such as the Corniche, FIFA Fan Festival and various other fan touchpoints such as D’reesha Performing Arts Festival at Education City.

“We received more than 4,000 applications from talented artists interested in being part of this one-of-a-kind event,” said Al Suwaidi. “We carefully considered the applicants and invited several hundred to share their talent with the world. Through this project, we provided the opportunity for talented artists to experience an event of this magnitude and celebrate their culture and passion with the fans during this countrywide festival of art and football.”

Al Suwaidi signed off by saying football fever had taken over the Doha Corniche.

He said: “This place is buzzing with excitement with fans from all over the world. This is what we love to see – football passion is everywhere.”

Fans are encouraged to head to the Corniche from 5-11 PM every day during the tournament. They can also use a free shuttle bus, which runs every 7.5 minutes at peak times, to travel between West Bay and Souq Waqif.
