Doha: Al Rayyan will take on Al Khor in the opening match of the Qatar Cup as the draw ceremony for the basketball tournament was held at the Qatar Basketball Federation’s (QBF) headquarters yesterday.
The Group B match will be played at the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall on October 16, marking the start of domestic season. The final of the tournament will be played on November 11.
The other teams in Group B are defending Qatar League champions Al Gharafa, Al Ahli and Al Sadd. Al Arabi, Al Wakrah, Al Shamal and Qatar SC were drawn in Group A.
Speaking on the occasion, QBF’s Head of Development Committee Ibrahim Obaid Al Siddiqi, said the competition will provide a thrilling start to the season. “No team is firm title favourites as both groups are well balanced. It’ll be the season’s first event, and anything can happen. But it’ll be exciting basketball for sure,” said Al Siddiqi, who played for Qatar in the past.
