DOHA: Best Buddies Qatar members from Pen Pal programme in Qatar Foundation Community Services participated in events organised by Marriott Marquis City Center Doha Hotel to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Best Buddy Qatar celebrations brought together members 7 to 12 years old with and without intellectual disabilities from different primary schools and centres such as Umm Salal School, Al Andalous School, Somaya School, Al-Bayan School, Al Salam School, Khadija School, Al-Khansa School and Amaal Center for Special Needs.
They took part in activities such as collecting puzzles, face painting, henna art, balloon twisting, taking photos at BBQ booths and with mascots, making butterflies, bowling, decorating cupcakes, sushi and pizzas, watching cartoons in the cinema, playing musical instruments,
singing, and reading poems.
Laalei Abu Alfain, Executive Manager of Best Buddies Qatar, said, “We are delighted to have the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha Hotel and Qatar Foundation Community Services on board to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities for Best Buddies Qatar members with and without intellectual disabilities. ”
Laurence Vanthier, the Director of Human Resources in Marriott Marquis City Center Doha, said, “This mutual opportunity provides children and their peer-buddies to experience the true meaning of integration.
