DOHA: The Indian embassy has received 3,781 complaints from Indian workers so far this year compared to 3,943 last year.
The embassy registered the deaths of 260 nationals so far this year, including 20 this month compared to 279 registered last year. The data was disclosed at the monthly open house at the embassy yesterday.
Following requests from Qatari authorities for travel documents for Indians in the Deportation Centre, the embassy issued 16 Emergency Certificates this month. It also issued 29 air tickets to Indians in distress for return home this month.
There are 105 Indians in the Central Prison and 195 at the Deportation Centre. The open house addressed urgent consular and labour issues of Indians.
Ambassador Sanjiv Arora, Deputy Chief of Mission R K Singh and other officials met complainants, discussed their problems and assured them that the embassy would follow up their cases with Qatari authorities, a statement said. Baby Kurien, Vice-President, Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) was present. Assistance given by ICBF to Indians this month includes nine air tickets for destitute workers.
