Chances of rain in Qatar during weekend as second month of winter begins

Doha: On its weather report for the weekend, Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) forecast misty to foggy weather conditions at first followed by moderate temperature during daytime and clouds. Cold nights are likely during the weekend. 

QMD also mentioned that there is chance of scattered rain on both days and warned about low visibility caused by fog formation at some places, especially in southern areas, from tonight to Saturday morning. Fog formation could cause visibility to drop to less than 2 km or zero visibility at times. 

The second month of winter arrives as 2021 kicks off tomorrow. According to QMD January climatologically marks as the coldest month of the year. Due to this, "cold fronts are common during this month with frequent low-pressure systems usually accompanied with thunderstorms."

Frequent fog cases, especially during the first half of the month, is likely as well as chances of rain during the second week of the month. 

This weekend, the lowest and highest temperature will vary between 18 degrees Celsius and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively. For this month, the mean daily temperature dips to 17.7 degrees Celsius, which is slightly lower compared to December. The lowest and highest temperature recorded in January is 3.8 degrees Celsius (1964) and 32.4 degrees Celsius (2015).

On Friday, the wind is expected to blow north-westerly to north-easterly at 5-15 KT inshore and north-easterly to easterly at 3-12 KT gusting to 18 KT in eastern areas.

While on Saturday, the wind is expected to blow variably less than 5 KT at first then becomes northerly to northeasterly at 5-15 KT.

On both days, the sea heights will vary between 1-2 ft inshore rising to 4-5 ft at various places offshore, particularly in Eastern areas on Friday.

During the weekend, visibility will range between 4-8 kilometres/ 2 kilometres or less at some places at first inshore, and decreases to 3 km at places at times offshore.
