The visit of the Syrian President to Doha marks a significant advancement in the growing relations between the two nations. It highlights the strong and evolving ties rooted in mutual support and shared interests. Since the fall of the former Syrian regime, Qatar has played a leading role in supporting Syria through a sustained humanitarian response, including the establishment of an air bridge to deliver essential aid such as medical supplies, food, and shelter materials, aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by the Syrian people. In a post on X, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani voiced his happiness with the visit of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic H E Ahmed Al Sharaa and added that they are working together to elevate the relations to the desired level that serves the common interests of both countries, hoping that this will contribute to achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people for stability, prosperity, and development. Previously, in January 2025, H H the Amir made a historic visit to Damascus, where he reaffirmed Qatar’s support for a unified Syria, the formation of an inclusive government, and national reconstruction efforts. The resumption of diplomatic and economic relations between the two states has been accompanied by several high-level meetings and humanitarian initiatives. These include Qatar’s support in resuming operations at Damascus International Airport, the supply of electricity to Syria via Jordan, and technical aid to improve infrastructure. Qatar also participated in regional and international conferences to bolster Syria’s transition. It has welcomed recent Syrian efforts such as the ratification of a Constitutional Declaration and the formation of a new government. These developments are seen as essential steps toward a state built on institutions, justice, and freedoms. This visit marks a new chapter in Qatar-Syria relations, founded on historical ties, shared aspirations, and a shared vision for regional stability and progress.
