Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will attend today the 8th edition of the Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award which is held this year in San Jose, Costa Rica. To support and inspire efforts in anti-corruption through awareness, encouragement, and challenge, the Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani Anti-Corruption Excellence Award advocates for the importance of tackling corruption and encourages the implementation of the crucial measures set forth by the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. Last year, the Award ceremony was held in Tashkent. The Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award, which was launched in 2016 to honour individuals and institutions from various parts of the world in celebration of the International Anti-Corruption Day, represents a significant addition to Qatar’s continuous local, regional, and international initiatives and efforts in supporting entities and international organizations involved in combating corruption. The Award has many categories. The Lifetime/Outstanding Achievement category seeks to give recognition and support to those who spent a whole life of service to anti-corruption or who have distinguished contributions locally or internationally in preventing and combating corruption. The Academic Research and Education, which aims to fight corruption through various means, including research and education. Combating corruption can be more effective through understanding and studying the causes and factors that create and propagate corruption. The Safeguarding Sports from Corruption category seeks to celebrate those individuals and entities that have worked to safeguard sport against corruption locally and regionally, making a tangible impact in reducing the risks of corruption in sports. The Innovation/Investigative Journalism category seeks to reward those who have created and developed the necessary tools to help in the fight against corruption. The Youth Creativity and Engagement category focuses on the importance of involving younger generations, be it teenage youths, university students, or young professionals, in the fight against corruption. Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Vice-Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), said in a statement to QNA that the award is of great importance internationally, and reflects the extent of keenness to enhance international cooperation in this field, especially since all countries have laws and legislation to combat corruption, which has very significant damage to the political and economic situation, social affairs, education, health and others. He considered the award an important platform through which to highlight these achievements, whether from institutions or individuals, in combating corruption.
