Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday concluded his visit to three Latin American countries, Brazil, Costa Rica and Colombia, a visit that marks a pivotal moment in Qatar’s efforts to strengthen global cooperation and forge deeper partnerships. As the third stop of his Latin American tour, the visit to Colombia underscores Qatar’s strategic commitment to enhancing its international relations and exploring opportunities for mutual growth across diverse sectors. During his visit to the Colombian capital, Bogotá, H H the Amir held a meeting with H E Gustavo Petro, President of the Republic of Colombia. Their discussions aim to bolster bilateral relations and explore avenues for collaboration in political, economic, and investment fields, alongside exchanging views on pressing regional and international issues. This visit reflects Qatar’s ambition to expand its economic horizons and establish partnerships aligned with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. The relationship between Qatar and Colombia is built on shared respect and mutual benefits, strengthened over the years through high-level meetings and signed agreements. A key milestone was the visit of Father Amir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Colombia in 2013, which laid the foundation for robust cooperation. This was followed by H H the Amir’s visit in 2016, where agreements covering political consultations, visa facilitation, and investment cooperation were signed, setting a new direction for bilateral ties. Recent engagements, including meetings between H H the Amir and H E Gustavo Petro during COP28 in Dubai and high-level visits in October by both nations’ foreign ministers, have further reinforced these ties. These engagements highlight both countries’ commitment to addressing global challenges, such as climate change, while fostering collaboration in critical sectors like energy. As the third-largest economy in South America, Colombia offers immense potential for partnership. With rich natural resources, thriving industries like IT and petrochemicals, and global leadership in coffee, flowers, and emerald production, it provides opportunities for investment and trade. The government’s investment-friendly policies, such as tax incentives and special economic zones, complement Qatar’s goals of global economic diversification. Furthermore, the two countries have joined forces on international platforms. Initiatives like the High-Level Global Conference on Youth-Inclusive Peace Processes and collaborative events at the United Nations reflect shared values in promoting peace, inclusivity, and sustainable development. Colombia’s unparalleled biodiversity, cultural richness, and strategic economic position make it an invaluable partner for Qatar. H H the Amir’s visit underscores Qatar’s commitment to building resilient and dynamic partnerships, fostering a future of shared prosperity, and reinforcing its role as a global leader in diplomatic and economic cooperation.
