DOHA: With the rising number of tourists visiting the UK, Qatar Airways (QA) yesterday announced that it would begin operations to Birmingham, the airline’s fourth gateway to the UK, from March 30.
There will be four weekly services to Birmingham, a major city in England’s West Midlands region, taking the total weekly frequencies to the UK to over 65.
“Britain being one of the most preferred destinations of our customers, we are going to start multicity operations in the country. Our services to Birmingham start on March 30, providing our customers with more options,” said Muhammad Waqas, Sales Manager, QA.
Waqas was speaking at the launch of the ‘VisitBritain’ campaign in Qatar. “Britain being a high yielding market, has been of great importance to our airline. We have been experiencing a double-digit growth (year-on-year) in the number of passengers.”
The ceremony at Grand Hyatt hotels was opened by British Ambassador Ajay Sharma. Also present were Christina Bruns, Manager (GCC), VisitBritain, and senior representatives from Social Media Influencer Khalifa Haroon and Hamad Al Amarai, also a leading Qatari comedian.
London has been the focal point of QA’s concentrations. QA has been consistently increasing frequencies and investing more resources to enhance its product and services. It operates six daily flights to London with the state-of-the-art equipment .
“Our A380 operations to London with triple configuration (First, Business and Economy classes) along with 777 and 787 operations (with twin-cabin configuration) has helped us boost the number of passengers on the route,” Waqas said. “In 2014, we announced our operations to Edinburgh (the capital city of Scotland), which has proven to be one of those inspiring tourist destinations, providing us with a platform to enhance our traffic numbers.”
Recently QA increased frequencies to Manchester, a very high revenue generating market, with double-daily flights (787) as it also caters to tourist traffic.
