World No.1 Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron began their quest for first Ooredoo Qatar Major 2023 title with a comfortable 6-3, 6-3 victory over Daniel Windahl and Jose Solano to enter the Round of 16 yesterday.
At the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex, Galan and Lebron spent just over one hour to eliminate their opponents after a dominant performance.
Number one in both the World Padel Tour and Premier Padel world rankings, Galan and Lebron are regarded as the best of all time after having finished three years (2020, 2021 and 2022) at the top of the overall rankings. They have won numerous high profile tournaments together.
However, they lost to Francisco Navarro and Martin Di Nenno at the Ooredoo Qatar Major title-clash last year before enjoying an exceptional season in which they captured two Premier Padel Majors and an equal number of Premier Padel P1 tournament wins.

Meanwhile, bottom seeds, Argentina’s Franco Stupaczuk and last year’s finalist Di Nenno beat Spain’s Teodoro Zapata and Anton Sans 6-2, 6-3 to advance in the tournament.
Also yesterday, Spain’s Francisco Navarro and Argentina’s Juan Tello, another prominent pair, yesterday advanced with a 7-6(5), 6-0, 6-3 win over Iván Ramirez and Pablo Cardona of Spain in another thrilling encounter, which ended in two hours and five minutes.
Later in the evening at the Centre Court, Argentinians Fernando Belasteguin and Daniel Gutierrez blanked Spanish qualifiers Jaime Fermosell and Jose Jimenez 6-0, 6-0 as all of the top four pairs booked their spots in the Round of 16.
Today, top seeds Galan and Lebron will meet Miguel Yanguas and Alejandro Arroyo who yesterday beat Miguel Semmler and Pablo Lijó 7-6(5), 6-4 in an all Spanish battle.
In other key clashes lined up for this evening, Stupaczuk and Di Nenno will take on Enrique Goenaga and Jairo Bautista while Navarro and Tello take on Maximiliano Sanchez and Lucas Campagnolo, seeded ninth.
