DOHA: Gold Fleece showcased her class once again with a strong victory in The Late Yousef Al Romaihi Cup at Al Uqda Racecourse yesterday.

The nine-year-old mare, owned by Nasser Saeed Al Eida and trained by Jassim Ghazali, bounced back to winning ways in impressive style. In doing so, she retained the prestigious cup for her owner, who won it last year via Seulomonde, who finished third this time behind the runner up Hamaki. Jockey Marco Casamento guided the veteran mare to success, completing his fourth win on the day while Ghazali secured his third victory. Ali, Fahad and Mubarak, sons of the late Yousef Al Romaihi, crowned the winners.

Casamento had earlier bagged wins with Ghanem (Purebred Arabian Handicap 65-85) and Dubai Hills (Thoroughbred Handicap 60-80) – both trained by Ghazali.
