DOHA: Qatar Fuel (Woqod) has named its multi-purpose auditorium inside its tower in Al Dafna after former minister of energy and industry H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah.
This is in honour of his services to Qatar’s oil and gas industry in general and Woqod in particular and his involvement in the international area in the field of environment and energy.
During his tenure as minister, Al Attiyah played a vital role in establishing Woqod in 2002 from the erstwhile Nodco.
He was keen to implement the vision of Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who was Emir at the time, to encourage all Qataris to become shareholders of Woqod.
Al Attiyah fully supported Woqod to become the leading company in the region in terms of distribution, storage and transportation of all petroleum products and related services, including bitumen supplies and vehicles inspection for the entire country, Woqod said in a statement yesterday.
Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Chairman, Woqod, said, “Woqod, under the guidance of H E Al Attiyah during 2003 -2014 as chairman has shown a tremendous growth and success which will be sustainable for years to come.
“In recognising H E Al Attiyah’s contribution and his whole-heated support, Woqod’s Board of Directors and the executive management have the pleasure to commemorate the auditorium by his name,” he added.
