Doha, Qatar: The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held a meeting with HE President Paul Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda, and HE President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, at Lusail Palace on Tuesday, as part of the efforts to de-escalate the situation in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
At the onset of the meeting, HH the Amir welcomed the Presidents of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, noting the friendly relations and growing cooperation between the State of Qatar and their two countries in various fields.
During the meeting, the Heads of State commended the progress made in the East African Community (EAC) and Southern African Development Community (SADC) process and the outcomes of their meeting held in Harare, Zimbabwe, on March 17, 2025.
The Heads of State also affirmed the commitment of all parties to an immediate ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, as agreed upon at the EAC and SADC Summit on February 8, 2025.
The leaders welcomed the continuation of the meetings to monitor progress and build on the understandings reached, thus contributing to establishing a solid foundation for sustainable peace, as outlined in the Luanda and Nairobi processes.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Presidents of the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo expressed their thanks and appreciation to HH the Amir and the State of Qatar for convening this meeting and for their positive role in building confidence and achieving a secure and stable future for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its territory.
