Doha: Filipinos in Qatar praise the 24-year-old Camille Bataller for her integrity when she returned an envelope containing a large amount of money to its rightful owner.
Bataller, who is working as a café barista in QMall, found on February 23 an envelope containing cash amounting to QR70,000 in the premises of the coffee shop. She stated that the envelope containing the money was not sealed and clearly visible, which led her to instantly recognize the cash.
Speaking to The Peninsula about the incident, she recalled immediately feeling "nervous" upon seeing the valuable left unattended by the owner, who was her first customer for the day.
Bataller acted quick and reported the lost item to the managers of the coffee shop.
Rose Anne Ibay, the manager of the coffee shop, said that they successfully identified and contacted the owner of the cash. "He was very happy and thankful," Ibay said as she recalled speaking with the owner over the phone.
"He came back to the coffee shop within 20 minutes to collect the cash," she added.
Ibay said that the owner felt really relieved and grateful for the employee's honesty and offered her a monetary reward as a token of appreciation for her integrity.
On social media, fellow 'kababayans' praised Bataller's good deed in returning the large amount of money equivalent to over one million in Philippine peso.
Although life can get tough, Bataller said that she values honest work and aspires to accumulate her own savings through hardwork.
The coffee shop's manager revealed that the establishment is preparing to properly honour Bataller's work.
