Doha, Qatar: More than 40,000 individuals have already registered for the Volunteer Programme of Expo 2023 Doha, scheduled to take place from October 2 to March 28, 2024.
The impressive number of registrations was disclosed by the organisers of the six-month horticultural event through their official Instagram handle. Notably, the registration process opened only on August 3.
For this grand event, the second-largest to be hosted by Qatar after the FIFA World Cup Qatar last year, the organisers are seeking to recruit 2,200 volunteers.
To become a volunteer, applicants must undergo a series of steps. First, their applications will be reviewed, followed by an interview. Once selected, volunteers will receive confirmation and be offered specific roles. They will then go through training and receive accreditation and uniforms before actively participating in the Expo 2023.
Throughout the duration of Expo 2023, each volunteer is expected to complete 45 shifts, with an average of two days per week. Shifts typically last between six to eight hours, depending on the assigned role. The volunteers’ roles cover various functions such as accreditation, ceremonies, ticketing, events and cultural experience, health and safety, language services, media and broadcast, participant operations, protocol services, visitor services and experience, and workforce.
Applicants who wish to become Expo 2023 Doha volunteers must be at least 18 years old by September 1 and be available to dedicate seven to eight days per month for six months.
While applicants must currently reside in Qatar, the Expo organisers have accommodated individuals outside the country, provided they are self-funded and willing to relocate to Qatar for the event’s duration.
Notably, Expo 2023 Doha does not offer visas, travel arrangements, or accommodation for international volunteers.
Among the enthusiastic registrants is Luna from the Philippines, who aims to give back to the community through volunteering. She expressed excitement about gaining volunteer experience and contributing to this international event. Another hopeful volunteer, Kristine from India, who volunteered during the World Cup last year, looks forward to being selected. For her, volunteering brings a unique sense of fulfillment by helping and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds.
Individuals interested in volunteering for Expo 2023 Doha can visit the event’s website, go to the “Take part” tab, and navigate to the “Volunteer Programme” section.
The half-year-long event will be held at the vast 1,700,000 sqm. area within Al Bidda Park. Themed “Green Desert, Better Environment,” Expo 2023 Doha promises to be an extraordinary event showcasing horticultural wonders and promoting environmental consciousness.
