DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has started a relief campaign for displaced Iraqis from Al Anbar Governorate, Mosul and Salah Al Dein to Sulaymaniyah Governorate in Kurdistan Region. Over 11,000 people benefited from food aid.
The delegation which presented aid included Mohammed Jassim Al Saliti, Relief Coordinator, QC, and Dr Ayesh Al Qahtani, a preacher at QC. Aid included food parcels, each containing flour, rice, oil, lentil, tomato paste, macaroni, cheese, pekmez, sugar, tea, beans, milk, vermicelli, humus and butter, were given to over 1,600 families.
The team distributed parcels in coordination with Islamic Kurdish Association to the displaced in the camps in Sulaymaniyah and homes rented by the displaced.
Al Saliti said, “The people living in the areas of territorial dispute in Iraq are suffering bad conditions which has led to the displacement of thousands. As a result, QC started working on alleviating their suffering and contributing to meeting their basic needs. Through its visit, the delegation identified some families’ needs and helped pay for some expensive medical treatments.” Dr Al Qahtani urged philanthropists to help the displaced people by providing basic supplies.
QC previously offered urgent aid to displaced families from Al Anbar Governorate. The QR400,000 aid comprised food parcels and basic supplies such as blankets and mattresses for 2,000 families.
In cooperation with the UN’s World Food Programme, QC previously provided displaced Iraqis with 4,000 relief supplies at a cost of over QR2m.
The supplies included products for personal hygiene, small water cans (plastic), water tanks with the capacity of 5,000 litres, and 40 drinking water containers distributed everyday to 80,000 people. QC also provided big and medium tents, kitchen tools, primus stoves, generators, temporary toilets and sanitation equipment.
Last year, QC started a campaign ‘Together to Relieve Al Anbar Displaced’ to support displaced families from Al Anbar. Aid included food parcels, blankets, mattresses and others for the displaced in Mosul, Tikrit, Samarra and other areas.
