Doha: Eljaish and Al Gharafa drew first blood in the best-of-five semi-final series of the Heir Apparent Cup.
Yesterday at the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall, Eljaish edged past Al Arabi 75-71, while Al Gharafa picked up a 73-64 win against Al Rayyan.
Fadi Abilmona sealed the win for Army, canning two gift shots off a deliberate foul called on Arabi with 4 seconds left in the game following a lost possession by the defending champions that spelled the final outcome of Game 1 between the squads.
In the other match, Al Rayyan took the lead early in the match but Al Gharafa found their bearing in the last minutes of the first period to erase the deficit and finish with a 22-10 overwhelming advantage after the first 10 minutes of the match.
In today’s matches, Rayyan take on Gharafa at 5.00pm while Al Arabi face Eljaish.
