Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) staff, their families, patients and visitors participated in healthy activities across its hospitals and facilities to mark National Sport Day (NSD).
Shamma Abdulla Behair, Director, PR and Community Engagement, Corporate Communications Department, HMC, said Qatar is one of few nations in the world to dedicate a day to sport and healthy living and as the country’s principal public healthcare provider, HMC is proud to participate.
“We are working towards a healthy future for Qatar and NSD demonstrates how we can all play a part in ensuring that on an individual level. It was wonderful to see our staff and their families engage in activities and work to improve their health and fitness.
“The activities and the participation of so many staff and their families demonstrate our commitment to the importance of maintaining a physically active lifestyle and support the vision and spirit of NSD and we thank everyone who joined us today.”
The HMC NSD Organising Committee held activities for patients and visitors at Al Wakrah and Al Khor hospitals and the Cuban Hospital, including mini football, basketball and table tennis.
The main venue was Bayt Al Dhiyafah in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City where many people took part in activities, including a 1.5km walkathon around the campus and the mini football tournament.
Residents of HMC’s Muaither Residential Compound, their families and staff also held a series of sport-focused activities.
HMC also joined the Ministry of Public Health and Primary Health Care Corporation in events, including a walkathon, at Aspire Park.
