DOHA: UAE-based Burjeel hospital will open its first branch in Qatar in Al Khor. It is expected to be the first private hospital in the northern city. The facility is to open in 2018.
Sheikh Abdullah Ahmed J Al Thani, heir of Sheikh Ahmed bin Jasim Al Thani and Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, Founder and Managing Director of VPS Healthcare yesterday signed an agreement to set up Burjeel Hospital-Al Khor at an event at the Doha Marriott hotel.
The hospital is part of VPS Healthcare, an integrated healthcare provider with network of hospitals, chain of medical centers and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and pharmacies across the MENA region.
The 88-bed hospital will be located behind the Lulu Hypermarket in Al Khor.
“We are looking forward to have Burjeel Hospital opening soon in Qatar as this will help serve the growing need for high quality healthcare among the local and expatriate population of the country,” said Sheikh Abdullah Ahmed J Al Thani.
“With its state-of-the-art technology and world-class medical expertise, Burjeel’s launch in Qatar will indeed propel the healthcare industry to international standards.”
An official told this daily yesterday that the hospital has got initial approval from the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) to start construction of the premises. A final approval would be issued after the building is ready.
“We expect to start work on the building next month and the hospital is expected to open in two-and-a-half years,” said the official.
He said Al Khor has been selected for the hospital considering the high demand because the city currently does not have a private hospital. “In a later phase, we have plans to open more branches in other parts of Qatar,” he added.
Barjeel Hospital Al Khor will be a premier healthcare facility that will provide world-class, specialised medical treatment and services to communities across the state. The hospital will have all the core medical, paramedical and support services supplied by well-trained, accredited and skilled professionals. It will have clinical teams from prominent hospitals and universities from North America, Europe, and other continents. “We are extremely honoured to have this opportunity to build Burjeel Hospital - Al Khor, Qatar. Burjeel Hospital has won laurels for its medical services in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Oman, and we are confident that the new medical facility will be recognised as one of the leading hospitals in Qatar, said Dr Vayalil.
