DOHA: The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships held final meetings yesterday led by Yousuf Ali Al Kazim, President of the Qatari Boxing Federation (QBF) and Executive Director of the (LOC) with the various subcommittees of the World Boxing Championships.
The Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships will be held in the Ali bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena from October 5 to 15.
The LOC reviewed the outcomes following the AIBA delegation’s final coordination visit, which took place from the 2nd to 9th September and was headed by AIBA Executive Director Karim Bouzidi.
During the delegation’s final visit ahead of the World Boxing Championships, they visited the state-of-the-art Ali bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena which will host two World Championships this year; the first being the massively successful 24th Men’s Handball World Championships held in January 2015.
The AIBA Delegation also held several coordination meetings with various working teams of the LOC, who have worked tirelessly to ensure that the AIBA World Boxing Championships are held up to international standards and exceed expectations.
The AIBA Delegation met with the marketing and public relations teams of the LOC and were satisfied with the plans in place ahead of the World Championships which are now only weeks away.
The Delegation complimented Qatar’s proven track record of hosting major international sporting events on a world-class level and they expressed their confidence in the success of the Doha 2015AIBA World Boxing Championships.
The Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships will shine on a light on the “noble art” and will inspire athletes and fans from around the world to witness an awe-inspiring display of athleticism.
This is the first time in history that the World Boxing Championships will be hosted in the Middle East and will feature 260 of the world’s best boxers.
The Championships will also serve as a qualifying event for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games for 23 successful boxers. During a press conference last week, AIBA venue supervisor Pat Fiacco said: “We met heads of LOC committees. They have done a fantastic job.
The AIBA official added: “This is an important event on the AIBA calendar and an important championship for Qatar. This is going to be the probably the best ever world championships in AIBA history.”
Fiacco told reporters at Ali bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Arena: “The LOC here has put in an incredible effort. You will see the best referees and technical staff managing the event.”
