Doha: Mixed media artist Mallika Jaiswal, Business Support Officer at the College of Health and Life Sciences (CHLS), Hamad Bin Khalifa University, has unveiled a public art mural at Barahat Al Janoub.

Jaiswal painted an outdoor wall mural in the newly-built residential city in Al Wakrah as it prepares to welcome fans and volunteers during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

She chose an environmental theme that invokes the serenity of the ocean and reflects its diversity of colourful marine life. The wall additionally represents the pearl diving tradition, one of the oldest professions in the Gulf region, and includes herds of dugongs, which have the second-largest population in the world in Qatar’s waters.

Set against the striking structural design of Barahat Al Janoub, which is inspired by traditional Qatari architecture, the expansive wall mural breathes life into this modern urban space. The project extends from Jaiswal’s active engagement within the HBKU campus and wider Doha communities using her art as a platform.
