Filipino community group in Qatar to hold blood donation campaign

Doha: Since 2012, the Unified Triskelion of Qatar (UTQ), a community group of Filipinos, has been actively organizing blood donation campaigns twice a year. 

In continuation of its initiative, they are organizing a blood donation campaign called "Safe Blood, Save Lives" on March 26, 2021 (Friday) at 7am and will be held at the Hamad Blood Donation Center. 

"Our organization feels fortunate and grateful that even in times like these we still be able to organize this kind of activity," Nelson Bobis, the Chairman of UTQ, told The Peninsula.

He also mentioned that the campaign serves as a way to give back to the community which has always been supportive of their organization. 

"We also wanted to share that camaraderie is not just within the members of the organization but to everyone as well," Bobis said.

The UTQ urged all eligible donors to donate if criteria for donor eligibility are met. The conditions for donor eligibility include the following:

 ·           All volunteer donor should have Original Qatar Id Card or Health Card or Driving License

·           All donors should have enough sleep at least 6 hours

·           Should have healthy food before donation

·           Anyone interested to donate should be between the age of 18-65 yrs.

·           The donors should be at least 50 kgs

·           Other questions will be taken care by professional nurses during the campaign

·           As per new Malaria Travel History guidelines, it has been reduced to 3 months (Before 6 months).

·           Donor should complete one month, if he travelled outside the country.

·           Individuals who are symptomatic, have positive result of COVID-19, or have been exposed to someone with, or with the potential to have COVID-19, are asked to refrain from blood donation now. Individuals who are recovered from COVID-19 should wait at least 3 months after symptoms have subsided to donate blood.
