DOHA: The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has slapped a fine of QR18,000 on a famous outlet at Landmark Shopping Complex for cheating customers and charging them more than announced in its promotion offer.
The errant outlet was caught in a massive crackdown launched by the Ministry to check promotions offered by shops in several shopping centres, including malls, in the country.
Permits issued to these outlets to run promotional offers have been cancelled as punishment.
The outlet at Landmark had violated the rule of promotion charging more than it was offering to customers as per the provisions of Ministerial Decision No 5 of 1984 regulating promotions by outlets.
Rules say that outlets should abide by the discounted price list during promotional offers.
The Ministry has urged consumers to check the prices of commodities before and after promotion and inform the Ministry in case of any violation.
Consumers can lodge complaints on toll free number of the Ministry at 16001 or email [email protected].
