Algiers: The Qatar Olympic Committee participated in the elective General Assembly meetings of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), which were held on March 14 and 15 in Algiers.

The Committee was represented at the meetings by First Vice President of the Committee Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana in the presence of a selection of continental and international sports figures.

The participation of the Qatar Olympic Committee in this event embodies its firm commitment to strengthening sports cooperation with the African continent and consolidating Olympic values. It also reflects its keenness to support the partnership between the National Olympic Committees in the continent, contributing to the development of sports at the international level.

The General Assembly renewed its confidence in the Algerian Mustapha Berraf by re-electing him as President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) by acclamation for a new term. The four Vice Presidents and the Secretary-General of the Association were also elected, amidst the presence of representatives of 54 African National Olympic Committees.

The meetings witnessed discussions on strengthening sports integration among African countries and defining strategies for developing sports in the continent.

The Assembly’s activities concluded with the organization of the African Olympic Awards ceremony, which honoured a selection of the most prominent African athletes and coaches in recognition of their exceptional achievements. Future directions for strengthening cooperation with international sports bodies were also discussed, in addition to launching sustainable sports initiatives aimed at enhancing the position of African sports on the global stage.
