Doha: Qatar Foundation-affiliate, QatarDebate Center, announced its support for the SyriaDebate initiative, as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the youth and promoting a culture of dialogue.
The SyriaDebate initiative aims to promote a culture of debate within Syrian society and equip the youth with critical thinking and effective communication skills.
This announcement followed the wrap-up of an intensive training programme introducing the art of debate, organized remotely by the QatarDebate Centre, with the participation of over 350 young men and women from across Syria. The me focused on providing participants with the fundamentals of debate, constructing and refuting arguments, and the roles of speakers, according to the QatarDebate Center training curricula.
The Centre said that the initiative is part of a vision aimed at enhancing debate in Syria through holding a series of future programmes, including arbitration academies, national championships, and specialised training programs, which will contribute to honing the skills of the youth and increasing their debating competitiveness.
It was also announced that the Syria school debate championship in Arabic will be organised during the second week of April in partnership with the QatarDebate Centre, in preparation for the 7th International Schools Debating Championship end of June.
