Doha: Young residents of Qatar have a new opportunity to learn about and get involved in preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar by joining the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy’s (SC) Youth Panel 2016 group.
The programme will see them accompany the development of the proposed host venues through to completion and influence their legacy use thereafter. Thirty-five youngsters, all sharing a passion for contributing to the development of society, were appointed to the panel last year.
Now, the SC is looking for another group representing Qatari and different communities, who are passionate about the 2022 FIFA World Cup and its impact on the country.
The group meets one Saturday each month for workshops and activities relating to the tournament. Among exciting opportunities, they get to hear from architects, learn about town planning and infrastructure projects and contribute to the plans that will positively impact their communities.
The new edition of the panel will have two groups, one delivering workshops in Arabic and one in English, with a maximum of 35 members each. Applicants must be between 15 and 21 and passionate about contributing to the World Cup.
Khalid Al Jumaily, Community Engagement Manager, SC, said: “We encourage all youth to apply and enter the recruitment process for an opportunity to learn about the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Each of you has an important role to play. If you live in Qatar, you are part of our journey.”
Last year, panel members visited the construction site of Al Wakrah Stadium, one of the proposed host venues for the 2022 tournament, and Shaikh Faisal Museum for a workshop with the art and culture team to review the strategy for delivering sculptures in each of the stadium precincts.
They collaborated in an Iftar tent for SC construction workers during Ramadan, learned about volunteering, charity and social media, among other monthly activities.
Panellists also attended a workshop delivered by Josoor Institute, a centre of excellence in sports and events industries, to empower and engage young residents and help them advance their professional careers in the field of managing and organising sports and other events.
