DOHA: A thick layer of fog engulfed several areas of the country early yesterday, particularly in the north where some 113 road accidents were reported.
The weather bureau has warned that foggy conditions may prevail in several parts of the country this morning as well.
The Traffic Department has urged motorists to exercise caution. Visibility will be affected due to the fog and may initially be about 1km or less and will improve later to four to 6km.
No one sustained serious injuries and there were no casualties in the accidents.
Damaged vehicles were removed from the accident sites.
According to department sources, most accidents were caused as motorists failed to follow traffic rules applicable to foggy weather conditions.
The coastal road in Al Khor and Al Shamal Road (the northern expressway) were the most affected, and many accidents took place especially at Umm Qarn traffic intersection.
The department increased patrolling in these areas early in the morning and urged motorists not to change lanes, overtake and drive at high speed in foggy conditions.
