Doha, Qatar: The Embassy of India has announced to celebrate the 10th UN International Day of Yoga on Friday, (June 21, 2024) with a yoga event at the Asian Town Cricket Stadium from 6pm to 8:30pm.
This year’s theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” emphasises the holistic benefits of yoga for individuals and its power to foster harmony between humanity and nature.
The announcement was made in a press conference held in Doha yesterday, June 18, 2024. Ambassador of India to Qatar H E Vipul and a number of other officials attended the press conference.
The main element of the event will be the performance of Common Yoga Protocol by all participants for about 40 minutes. The event will also feature yoga competitions for both children and adults and a yoga quiz.
The UN proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by a resolution which was proposed by India and co-sponsored by a record 177 member states in December 2014. Over the past few years, IDY has been celebrated with great fanfare across the world including Doha.
In 2022, for the celebration of 8th IDY, an event was organized in Doha where 114 nationalities were represented and a new Guinness World Record was created for the most nationalities in one Yoga session.
Everyone is invited to join this global event, promoting the unity of mind, body, and soul. Entry to the event is open for all based on prior registration at the link.
This celebration is being organised with the enthusiastic support and active involvement of various socio-cultural organizations of the Indian community. Participants are encouraged to carry their Yoga mats; water will be provided.
