DOHA: Jaber Al Harami, Editor-in-Chief of Al Sharq and deputy CEO of Dar Al Sharq has been selected the best Arab media person of the year (2015) by the Jordan-based United Arab Media Council (UAMC).
Prince Khaled bin Faisal bin Turkey Al Saud, Saudi ambassador to Jordan and Aql Beltagy, mayor of Amman presented the award to Jaber Al Harami at a ceremony on the sidelines of the Arab news media forum in Amman.
The Qatari Ambassador to Jordan, Bander bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, and a number of diplomats and Arab media personalities were present.
Qatari journalist from Al Jazeera Mohammed Saudoon Al Kuwari and Hassan Habeeb from the UAE won the Teyseer Jaber prize for sports media.
UAMC, an independent media forum in the Arab world, is recognised by the Arab League. A jury of academics and media experts selected the winners. Haithem Yousuf, a leading media figure and secretary general of UMAC told Al Sharq that Al Harami was awarded for the “honesty and seriousness” in his writings, his long experience and personal integrity.
“By honouring Arab media personalities, we aim to send a clear message about unifying Arab writers at a time we are marking Al Quds as Arab media capital for 2015,” said Yousuf.
