Doha: Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a member of Qatar Foundation, honoured Dr Aisha Al Mannai, Director, Muhammad Bin Hamad Al Thani Center for Muslim Contribution to Civilisation.
The appreciation event took place at the HBKU Student Centre and served to celebrate Dr Al Mannai’s contribution to Qatari society.
She recently received two awards relating to her humanitarian and community work --- the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Henry Davison Award in recognition to her outstanding commitment to humanitarianism. The award highlights her role in building a culture of charitable and voluntary work among members of the Qatari community.
Dr Al Mannai was also one of the Qatari winners recognised at the 1st GCC Excellence Awards last December. The awards were presented to people who have made contribution to science, medicine, industry, literature, politics and diplomacy, economics, and philanthropy.
“It is my pleasure to stand before you to honour Dr Al Mannai, a dear member of our HBKU family, for her achievements locally, regionally and globally,” Dr Ahmad Hasnah, President, HBKU, told the honouring ceremony, attended by guests, including senior representatives from HBKU colleges and research institutes.
“At the personal, academic and societal levels, we look to her as being someone who sets an example for all of us to follow and we wish her every future success,” he added.
Dr Al Mannai was presented with a gift in appreciation of her continued contribution to HBKU through her work within the centre, which is part of the university’s Faculty of Islamic Studies.
