Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.
Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani was present, along with ministers and Nieto’s delegation.
Both sides reviewed relations between the two countries and ways of enhancing them in all fields, particularly in economy and investment.
They also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern, including developments in the Middle East, especially the situation in Palestine, Syria and Yemen.
Following the talks, the Emir and Nieto witnessed the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding between both countries. These included an agreement on cooperation in cultural and artistic fields, an MoU on cooperation in energy field, agreements on cooperation in education, sport, the exchange of news between Qatar News Agency and the Mexican news agency; an MoU between the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and ProMexico, and a letter of intent between Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
Earlier, Nieto arrived at the Emiri Diwan, where he was accorded an official reception.
The Emir also hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of Nieto and his delegation. Several ministers and businessmen were also present.
Later, Nieto left wrapping up a two-day official visit to Qatar. He and his delegation were seen off at Hamad International Airport by Minister of Energy and Industry H E Dr Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada, Qatari Ambassador to Mexico Ahmed Abdulla Ahmed Al Kuwari and Mexican Ambassador to Qatar Francisco Javier Nambro Cibrian.
