DOHA:  The Spirit of Qatar Team has arrived in the United States of America to finalise preparations for the 32nd Annual Key West World Championships, which will take place in Florida on November 4-11.

Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al Thani confirmed that the team left Qatar yesterday and will arrived in Florida today.

The team’s British throttleman Steve Curtis will be with the crew from today and Sheikh Hassan will join the team after the Eid holidays.

Sheikh Hassan, the President of the Qatar Marine Sports Federation (QMSF), and Curtis will challenge for honours in the world famous American boating festival at the helm of their spare Spirit of Qatar 96.

“The engines have been upgraded to 1000hp and have arrived in Florida,” enthused Sheikh Hassan.

“We have a short time left to get the boat ready before the races. We know we have less power that the rest of the fleet, but we hope that we can sneak some form of advantage in rougher weather conditions and we can push on with the bigger power boats.”

The actual races will take place on November 7, 9 and 11 with the intermediate days being used for testing, marketing and boat displays. The Peninsula
