DOHA: Nearly 40 participants from seven Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) embassies in Doha competed in the Asean Badminton Tournament held recently at Philippine School Doha.
Ambassadors and staff from the embassies of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam took part in the event organised by the Asean Committee in Doha (ACD). It was one of ACD’s annual activities to promote friendship and togetherness among the embassies.
The tournament comprised five categories, including Heads of Missions (Single), Wives of Heads of Missions (Single), Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
Brunei Darussalam Ambassador Nordin Ahmad won the Heads of Missions (Single) category with Malaysian Ambassador Dato’ Ahmad Jazri bin Mohd Johar as runner-up.
In the Wives of Heads of Missions (Single) category, the winner was Chau Anh, wife of the Vietnamese Ambassador, with Sathatip Laismit, wife of Thai Ambassador as runner-up.
The Malaysian embassy dominated the tournament, winning Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles while the Indonesian embassy won the Women’s Doubles.
