Third Winter Festival opens at Katara

Doha: The Winter Festival 2016 was inaugurated by Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager, Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, yesterday.
Activities continue until Thursday at Katara Esplanade. 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Al Sulaiti said: “We are pleased to announce today the launch of the third edition of Winter Festival for 2016 at Katara. 
“This year’s edition draws a significant participation of institutions and entities. Katara strives to set up the festival during schools’ winter break. It aims to present activities that would contribute to educating, entertaining and raising awareness of children.
“The festival includes activities and events that carry cultural and educational messages for children to benefit them in their daily lives and at school,” Dr Al Sulaiti added. He stressed that the festival is in line with Katara’s objective to attract all family members to take part in cultural events. 
He said all visitors, especially children, will find activities that interest them, as Katara has been keen to collaborate with various sectors to organise fascinating and remarkable events for the audience.”
Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Tamimi,  Head, Winter Festival Organising Committee, called on visitors to seize the opportunity of spending constructive and useful time by participating in events. 
The Childhood Cultural Centre is planning activities for children, including competitions and games, with gifts.
Qatar Heritage and Identity Centre is featuring a unique educational theatrical show to highlight the winter season besides entertaining activities to familiarise people, especially children, with the Qatari cultural, identity and flora. To raise awareness about healthcare during the winter season, two health campaigns will be held. One will be held by Bin Muftah’s Medical Centre to raise visitors’ awareness about common diseases and foods to eat during the during the winter months and provide healthy tips.
The other campaign will be held by Al Rabiee Medical Centre to raise awareness about skin care during the winter season.
Al Gannas Society is organising information sessions for junior falconers  and sessions on falconry and hunting using salouki dogs. 
The festival will also feature exhibitions and workshops under Al Galayel Competition. 
A birds and animals exhibition by Kanari World pet store, performances by cultural bands, activities by the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, games at the beach front organised by Katara, a photo exhibition, kids and painting workshops for adults, a display of handcrafts by Qatar University’s Alumni Association and an introductory expo by Qatar News Agency are among other events.
Katara has always been keen to launch organise such educational and entertaining festivities in winter with the participation of the private and government sectors.
The third edition of the festival aims to attract the public, especially children, to provide a glimpse on Qatari lifestyle during winter.
