QTTA President Khalil Al Mohannadi handed the Amir Cup to Qatar SC captain.
Doha, Qatar: Qatar SC won the prestigious Amir Cup for Table Tennis (2024-25) for the eighth time defeating Al Arabi SC 3-2 in the final held at Al Arabi Club Hall.
Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) President Khalil Al Mohannadi who is also the President of the Arab and Asian Federations and First Vice-President of the International Table Tennis Federation, crowned the winners and the runners-up.
The final went the distance after Qatar SC’s Omar Assar scored a straight games opening win over Al Arabi’s Rawad Al Nasser. Qatar SC’s Mohamed Abdel Wahab added to his team’s lead by defeating Al Arabi’s Croatian professional Tomas Bucar 3-1.
In the third match, Al Arabi’s Jermaine Schmidt beat Ahmed Eid 3-2. Qatar SC’s bounced back levelling the tie as Assar beat Al Arabi’s Thomas Boukar 3-1 in the fourth match.
The decider was clinched by Mohamed Abdel Wahab, who blanked Al Arabi’s Rawad Al Nasser in three straight games.
The triumph saw Qatar SC lift their eighth title following their earlier wins in 2001-02, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, and 2022-23 seasons.
Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi congratulated Qatar SC, its board of directors, and all the club’s fans on this victory after a marathon final.
For his part, Mohammed Abdullah Saleh, Secretary General of QTTA, said that Qatar Club deserved to be the champions and that Al Arabi also displayed outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
