DOHA: Combined opening ceremony of the 41st Annual Sports Meet of all sections of MES Indian School and the inaugural function of Al Ethihad Sports Academy were conducted at the flood lit ground of the school on October 22. Declaring the meet open, Khalid Al Yazidi, General Secretary Qatar Fencing Federation, and the Chief Guest of the day appreciated the initiatives taken by the school in promoting students to excel in sports and games.
The function started with a welcome drill performance by the students of Junior Section followed by the colourful and synchronized march past display by the Blue, Green, Red and Yellow Houses of the school. The march past event, gymnastics as well as aerobics displays of the young talents of the school and a demonstration of fencing techniques by the representatives of Qatar Fencing Federation stole the show. Competitions were held in various categories like 4X100 metres relay, 100 metres race, 200 metres race, 1500 meters race, long jump, high jump and shot put. Athil Ismail, the Sports Captain, Boys’ Section led the oath taking ceremony for the contestants.
K Abdul Karim, President Officiating, P K Mohamed, General Secretary, K P Abdul Rasheed, General Secretary, IES Education City, Ahamed Isham, Director Sports and Games, the Governing Board members of MES and IES were among the dignitaries present on the occasion. Selena Thomas, Sports Captain, Girls’ Section delivered the welcome address, while Mohammed Isham, Sports Captain, CBSE-i Section of the school proposed a vote of thanks.
