Doha: Qatar University has selected HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al -Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), as the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) person of the year 2015 in recognition of his significant role in supporting CSR and for being a role model inspiring the youth of Qatar.

The annual national CSR report, which is produced under the supervision of Qatar University, observes the achievements of selective inspiring personalities who represent distinguished leadership in the CSR concepts.

Qatar University will host the awarding ceremony of HE Sheikh Joaan while launching the 4th Edition of the annual national CSR report in the first quarter of next year. The awarding ceremony will be attended by High officials: Including the CSR person of last year HE Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, Ministers, Ambassadors and other recognized members of the society who contributed to the report.

Other attendees include representatives of non-governmental organizations and academic institutions, public and non-profit associations, high officials representing Qatar University, and a big number of the University Students.

The Ceremony will include the official inauguration of the CSR person of the year painting by an international artist assigned from Qatar University. Also during the ceremony, His Excellency will be awarded a Crystal Shield appreciating his efforts in CSR.
In this occasion, Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham, President of Qatar University, said: "HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al -Thani, is a motivating leader of CSR in Qatar. His contribution is significant, especially in supporting the special needs and education programs.

That was evident through his directives to allocate the profits of the International Championships in 2015 for the benefit of (Teach a child) program intending to raise the number of children to get education in the world. In addition to the social activities organized by Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) through (Active Qatar) program. These initiatives distinguish His Excellency as one of the most inspiring persons for the youth generation.

Dr. Al Derham added, "The CSR person of the year is an initiative launched by Qatar University to enforce the CSR culture in the society and to encourage the youth generation and the students to serve their society and join the volunteer’s activities to develop the society in accordance with the Social Development Pillar in the Qatar National Vision 2030. We also hope that such initiative will contribute in building bridges between cultures and will help in social fusion of all community classes in one human bound".
Qatar University, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the CSR Network, is supervising the production of the annual CSR report on a National level.

The Report is prepared under the guidance of the College of Business and Economics, and supported by a number of governmental and non-governmental bodies in addition to the support of major corporations that are concerned in the social development.
A number of Ministers, Ambassadors, representatives of international organizations and respected academic personalities in Qatar provide the report with intellectual contributions.

The report monitors the annual progress of sustainable development in society especially in CSR, and the Qatar National Vision 2030. The CSR Report Qatar is an important document that is widely monitored by the media and the community and upon publishing; it is distributed with local newspapers in Arabic and English and to select corporations and organization.
