Top Qatari pilot Waleed Mahmoud Al Sharshani will be targetting the top spot when he lines up against the world’s best competitors at next month’s Jet Ski Aquabike World Cup 2017 to be held in Pattaya, Thailand.
Riders from as many as 35 countries will compete at Jomtien Beach in the showpiece event of aquabike sport to be held from December 7 to 10.
Qatar will be represented by two riders with Ali Al Naimi being the other member of the squad along with Al Sharshani.
“It’s a top class event and the competition will also be very tough,” Al Sharshani told a press conference at Doha Marine Sports Club yesterday.
“The competition will see top riders who will come with a lot of preparations. I have also trained hard for this competition and have so far competed in five races this season.
“I am in good form and very much confident of achieving a good result in the upcoming challenge,” said the top Qatari rider.
The next month’s event will be fourth appearance for Al Sharshani in the World Cup. He competes in the Pro Runabout Grand Prix and his best result so far was the top spot, which he earned in the US in January 2016 edition.
“I’ve been doing well in this event and the US event was my best performance. I have gained a lot of experience of competing at the top level and I am hoping to repeat that show in Thailand. I think I have a good chance of doing well, barring any technical problem,” said the top Qatari rider.
Also present in the press conference were  Sheikh Jassim bin Nasser Al Thani, Chairman Speed Marine, Saleh Ibrahim Al Mannai, Vice Chairman Doha Marine Sports Club and Al Naimai.
Speed Marine are the sponsors for the Qatari team which will also include six officials who will accompany the riders in Thailand.
“We wish the best of luck to team Qatar. Both our riders have worked hard to prepare for the top class event and we are confident that they will show a good performance in the competition,” Sheikh Jassim said.
