Doha, Qatar: Minister of Municipality H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie yesterday inaugurated the 7th term of the Central Municipal Council (CMC).
The 29 CMC members took oaths and elected chairman and deputy chairman for the new term. Mohamad bin Ali Al Adba has been elected as Chairman and Mubarak Feraish Al Salem as Deputy Chairman for the 7th term of the Central Municipal Council.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the Minister of Municipality said that the Ministry will enhance cooperation with CMC to serve the country and citizens.
“The cooperation will help achieve our common goals in advancing municipal work in all municipalities, pursuant to the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and in light of the support and follow-up of Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs,” said the Minister.
He assured that the Ministry is fully prepared to provide all aspects of cooperation and support to the Central Municipal Council, in the interest of developing municipal work.
“We also welcome communication with CMC members to present the demands of their constituencies and learn about the projects which are being implemented there, and other municipal matters and services,” said the Minister.

He said that the Ministry also attached great interest in the recommendations or requests it received from CMC for the public interest to ensure the success of the role of CMC members in meeting the hopes and aspirations of citizens in their constituencies.
The Minister said that this in a way that achieves the desired goals of improving the level of services in all cities and regions, and in a way that contributes to achieving comprehensive development plans in the country.
“I would like to commend the renaissance and development witnessed by all municipalities, and the achievements made in recent years,” said the Minister.
He said that the most prominent achievements are that all Qatari cities were awarded the title of Healthy City from the World Health Organization, making Qatar the first country in the Eastern Mediterranean Region to win this title.
“In addition, six Qatari cities obtained membership in the Unesco Global Network of Learning Cities, as well as Al Wakra won the Unesco Learning Cities Award for the year 2021, and Al Daayen got the Socially Responsible Arab City Award for 2023,” said the Minister.
He noted that these achievements and successes of the municipalities are the culmination of the great efforts they made to improve the quality of life and improve the health and well-being of the population.
“This is in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the Ministry of Municipality in preserving environmentally friendly cities with green facilities, in addition to providing sustainable and healthy options for all people living in Qatar,” said the Minister.
He said that Qatar is preparing to host Expo 2023 Doha, which will start on October 2, 2023, for six months until March 28, 2024. “This exhibition will be an opportunity to showcase our progress in the field of environment, sustainability, and natural beauty. We will have the opportunity to receive our guests from different countries of the world and exchange ideas and experiences in these important areas,” said the Minister.
Muhammad bin Hammoud Shafi Al Shafi who chaired the opening ceremony said that CMC members are committed to performing the task and responsibility entrusted to them with honesty and sincerity in order to move towards advancing work in the municipality.
The elections of chairman and deputy chairman were held by secret ballot. CMC Secretary General Muhammad Abdul Hamid Nasrallah counted the ballot papers and Muhammad bin Hamoud Shafi Al Shafi Head of the opening session announced the results.
