The Farrelly brothers’ belated followup to Dumb and Dumber now has a title, a near-completed screenplay and Jim Carrey back on the cast list, the siblings have revealed via Twitter.
The appropriately, if obscurely monikered Dumb and Dumber To is set to arrive in 2014, a full 20 years after the debut instalment. The Farrellys were not involved in 2003 prequel Dumb and Dumberer, which was also missing stars Carrey and Jeff Daniels.
The Farrellys told a fan via Twitter that Carrey was expected to appear this time around. “You also might be interested to know that we are almost done with the Dumb and Dumber To (sic) script.
I think you’re going to like it,” they wrote, later adding: “We had nothing to do with Dumb and Dumberer.
This is following Jim C and Jeff D.” The film-makers also said key figures Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne were “the same old guys” in their new incarnation.
Carrey had appeared doubtful for the sequel after proclaiming his frustration with studio Warner Bros’ apparent disinterest in June. “I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer,” he said in a statement. “After all it’s implied in the title.”
Bobby Farrelly revealed in August that the new film revolves around the fact that Harry or Lloyd may have sired a child. “They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys,” he told Digital Spy.
