DOHA: Doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals seeking a licence to practise in Qatar will not be allowed to take the qualifying examination (Prometric) more than five times, according to a new decision by the Supreme Council of Health (SCH). In line with a decision of the Permanent Licensing Committee at SCH, the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners has regulated the number of attempts to pass the qualifying examination and the gap between each attempt, QCHP said in a circular issued to all private and public healthcare practitioners.
The move aims to ensure competence and bring about a unified policy. Under the new rule, the practitioner can take the exam three consecutive times, irrespective of the gap between attempts. In case the practitioner fails the third time, he/she will be permitted two more attempts with a gap of six months. However, the total number of attempts should not exceed five. Applicants who have exceeded the permitted number of attempts before the date of issue of the new policy will be treated on case-by-case basis, said the circular.
