DOHA: Qatar University College of Medicine held its School Counsellors Day in which counsellors from 19 schools were oriented on the college’s programmes, facilities and plans.
The event aimed to showcase the college as a good choice for students who wish to pursue a career in the scientific and medical field. It was also an opportunity for counsellors to gain a better understanding of the college and share views, questions and comments.
Visitors were welcomed by QU Vice-President for Medical Education and college Dean Dr Egon Toft, and members of the faculty and administrative team. They highlighted various areas of the college.
Dr Hossam Hamdy, Adviser to the QU president and Professor of Surgery, spoke about the college’s study plan and its international collaboration, while Acting Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Ghada Al Kuwari discussed its enrolment and admission requirements. Information on scholarships and application procedures was presented by QU Scholarships Specialist Amani Nuweiser from the Student Affairs Scholarships Office.
The programme included a tour of students’ exhibition, screening of a short video on life at the college and personal stories of students who discussed why they chose medicine as a career, their experiences and goals as future doctors.
During the tour, counsellors were shown classrooms, study rooms and skills labs and a demonstration of equipment by Professor of Anatomy and Medical Education and Head of the Basic Medical Sciences Department Prof Marwan Abu-Hijleh.
The event ended with a presentation by student Fatima Al Mohannadi, who was among the college’s first batch. She discussed her life as a student at the college and choosing medicine as a career path.
