Registration for courses is open until January 12.

DOHA: The Language Centre at the Translation and Interpreting Institute (TII) of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Qatar Foundation, is accepting applications for its spring 2016 programmes.
Registration for courses in various proficiency levels in Arabic, French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese is open until January 12.
The centre seeks to turn its students to life-long learners, providing quality language instruction in the classroom, and opportunities to take learning into the community.
In previous years, students have been invited to attend events with the Chinese ambassador, and travelled with their class to Grenada, Spain, and tours to France, where they were given the chance to live with local families.
As part of its outreach beyond the classroom, the centre team recently took part in Made in China 2015, the first comprehensive showcase and trading platform in Qatar for high-end Chinese productions and solutions in the field of construction science and technology. By reaching out to the government and corporate community interested in building a relationship with China, TII hopes to illuminate how language learning can benefit personally and professionally.
Asaad Kahlout, Director of the centre, said, “Our classes tend to be diverse with students beginning study from different backgrounds, motivated by a multitude of reasons and with varying levels of understanding of the target culture. To drive class participation and engagement, teachers often assign group work and encourage students to support the learning of their classmates.”
In line with the TII’s goal to serve the language training needs of the community, courses take place twice a week and are timed to suit the schedules of those who work during the day and those who would rather keep their evenings free.
Morning sessions are from 9am to 10.30am or between 11am and 12.30pm and evening sessions from 5pm to 6.30pm or 7pm to 8.30pm. Students are granted access to TII’s state-of-the-art labs to supplement textbook study and practise active listening.
