DOHA: Registration for the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival 2016 concluded on Monday with 1,541 participants, making the festival the biggest to date in terms of participation.
Registration was held since Friday at the headquarters of Al Gannas Society at Katara.
Al Gannas Society Chairman Ali bin Khatim Al Mahashadi praised efforts of the registration committee, particularly in the last two days of registration which saw a rush of falconers who wanted to take part in the seventh edition of the festival. The schedule of the competition will be set up and each participant will be notified of the date of his participation, said Al Mahashadi.
The festival organised under the patronage of H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani will see participants compete in various categories of competitions from January 1 to 30 at Sabkhat Marmi in Sealine.
Mansour Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Saluki Committee, said a strong Saluki competition can be expected this year, with the increase in the number of participants who include winners in similar competitions held recently in the GCC. Many participants, some of whom have several falcons competing, praised the committee for conducting a well-organised and efficient procedure despite the big number of participants.
