Doha: Work on preparing designs of 65 new public parks to be built across the country is going on, according to a senior official from the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP).
“We are preparing designs for 65 new public parks in different municipalities,” said Mohammed Ali Al Khori, Director of Public Parks at the MMUP. These parks are in different stages of study and design.
He added that the department is surveying areas which have no public parks in coordination with the authorities concerned to earmark plots of land to build parks.
“Our aim is to cover all municipalities and provide amenities to all the people living in the country,” he stressed.
Al Khori, who was speaking yesterday on a talk-in radio programme “Watani Al Habib”, told the programme that the construction work of Al Dohail Public Park began in 2010 and it was part of 38 parks, 37 of which were completed on time except this one.
The construction company failed to finish the project and it was referred to court which took a long time to settle the case, he said. He said that a month ago a new contract with another company had been signed and work will finish within six months.
Answering another question about lack of public parks in Al Khaisa area, Al Khori explained that designs of three parks had been completed and within the coming three to four months, tenders will be invited to build the parks.
Furthermore, Al Khori said once the plot of land is allocated by the competent authority, the department will begin contacting providers of different services to fulfil major requirements prior to preparing designs and inviting tenders in competitive manners.
When the estimated budget is allocated for implementation of the project work will continue until the time of handing over the park to the municipality concerned.
The ministry has explained in its official Facebook account that it is also helping people to get high quality plants at low prices. And to meet the increasing demand in winter, the Ministry has planted around 2.5 million plants of flowers at the central plant nursery and Al Matar centre.
Of that, around 1.5 million saplings have been distributed to municipalities and government institutions to make areas green, the ministry said in its Facebook account yesterday.
Another 2,000 saplings had been sold to the public for home gardens.
People can apply for plants and seasonal and permanent flowers using online system or smartphones. The department has signed an agreement with a private company to deliver plants at home in safer ways. The Peninsula
