The Maritime Transport Sector is committed to developing and modernising the sector in line with Ministry of Transport’s strategic plans aiming at ensuring a safe maritime navigation that meets all safety requirements and obligations. It keeps pace with the international maritime developments through creative and effective application of international maritime instruments and observation of emerging trends. The Ministry has launched its application ‘Darb’ for smartphones and smart devices as part of enhancing accessibility to its digital services anytime, anyplace, faster and easier than ever. ‘Darb’ provides a package of new digital services related to maritime transportation affairs, particularly small crafts’ transactions currently. Using ‘Darb’ now, beneficiaries can register a new small craft, renew a small craft’s registration license, modify a small craft’s specifications, have a replacement for a lost or damaged license issued, delete a small craft, have a small craft’s ownership sequence certificate issued, apply for a small craft’s mortgage service, apply for a small craft’s mortgage release service, and modify a small craft’s ownership. Beneficiaries can visit and apply for those new digital services anytime, anyplace, thereby saving time and effort. They can also tell the application to send them their maritime vessels’ cards via Qatar Post. Darb’ will include other Ministry of Transport’s digital services soon. They relate to seafarers’ affairs and land transportation licensing. The launch of both digital services and the application comes within Ministry’s efforts to modernise the country’s transportation sector in a fashion that meets technological advancements. As part of efforts to achieve the strategic objectives of Qatar’s National Vision 2030, the Maritime Transport Sector maintains a close relationship with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and runs constant reviews of national legislation to ensure their compliance with relevant international legislation in the best interests of Qatar. The new package of eservices shows that the Ministry of Transport keeps modernising a transportation sector that is supportive of the technological advancements by making a qualitative shift in digitising the sector’s services by introducing smart solutions to the public and deploying modern technologies to provide better services. Additionally, the Ministry is implementing its plans that aim at improving the services and making them easier, simpler, available, and accessible anytime, anyplace, triggering higher public satisfaction.
