Since the recent regime change in Syria, the new administration of the Syrian Arab Republic has taken several positive steps to enhance civilian safety, maintain state institutions’ stability, ensure the continuity of public services, and secure the basic needs of the Syrian people. Additionally, efforts have been directed toward establishing a unified national army that represents all segments of Syrian society without exclusion. The State of Qatar has firmly supported these measures, recognising them as the foundation for a new phase that enables the Syrian people to realise their legitimate aspirations for freedom, justice, and peace. In line with its longstanding humanitarian commitment and moral responsibility toward the Syrian people, Qatar has launched several initiatives to alleviate the ongoing crisis. As part of these efforts, the State of Qatar established an air bridge to deliver humanitarian aid to affected regions. A notable initiative in this regard is the recent inauguration of “Al Amal City” in northern Syria, a residential project designed for displaced persons. In line with directives from the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar has taken further steps to support Syria’s recovery by addressing its severe electricity shortage. Through a strategic initiative, Qatar now provides reliable electricity supplies to the Syrian Arab Republic via the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, aiming to strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure. This initiative is part of an agreement signed by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) with Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme. Under this agreement, Qatar will provide operational support as needed to ensure the sustainability of the energy supply. A statement from QFFD confirmed that the initiative will generate and deliver 400 megawatts of electricity daily, gradually increasing production at the Deir Ali power plant in Syria. The supplied electricity will be distributed to multiple Syrian cities, including Damascus, significantly improving basic services and enhancing community stability. Commenting on this initiative, QFFD Director General Fahad bin Hamad Al Sulaiti stated that, “This initiative is a crucial step toward meeting Syria’s energy needs and reflects the collective commitment of all involved parties to work for the benefit of the region.” This initiative underscores Qatar’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian aid, relief efforts, and reconstruction in Syria. By ensuring the provision of essential services, Qatar remains dedicated to fostering long-term stability and prosperity for the Syrian people.
