On the one hand, the far-right’s backlash against inclusive programs targeting so called “immigrant” neighborhoods highlights the prevailing political tensions and debates around national identity and resource allocation. The extreme left on the hand has criticized the amount of investment in the Olympics, arguing that the funds could be better used to address pressing social issues. They view the Olympics as benefiting the wealthy and exacerbating social inequalities. Similarly, concerns about gentrification and the displacement of low-income residents in areas like Seine-Saint-Denis illustrate the complex social impacts of large-scale urban projects.
Amidst the backdrop of global conflicts and cyber threats, security remains a paramount concern, with the city ramping up measures to ensure the safety of participants and spectators, in particular for the opening ceremony which will be held at the heart of the city of Paris. The government has planned extensive measures including deploying over 30,000 police and implementing rigorous security checks.
